Elizabeth Crabtree Wells
Elizabeth Crabtree Wells is Special Collection Librarian and University Archivist at Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama. She received her BA from Judson College, MA in history from Auburn University and MLS from the University of Alabama. The Collection at Samford is a repository of the Alabama Baptist Historical Collection, houses manuscripts and rarities primarily of Alabama, and serves as the Howard College/Samford University Archives. Elizabeth works with churches and community, historical, and genealogical organizations in promoting the preservation and utilization of Alabama’s historical records and provides instruction to the university community and others upon request regarding research tools and methodology.
She is a lecturer for the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research and a speaker at National Genealogical Society conferences and state and regional genealogical and historical organizations. Her publications include: Daughters of the Dream: History of Judson College with Frances Hamilton; “Genealogy Section,” Magazines for Libraries; and state advisor (Alabama), Best Books for Academic Libraries. She also wrote the "Church Records" chapter in The Source: A Guidebook to American Genealogy.
Elizabeth is president of the Alabama Genealogical Society, past president of the Society of Alabama Archivists and treasurer of the Alabama Baptist Historical Society. She has served as Trustee of the Southern Baptist Historical Commission, and is an Executive Board member of the Alabama Historical Association.
