U.S., World War II Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Casualties, 1941-1945

This database contains a list of WWII Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard casualties. The men included in this list were on active duty and fit into one of the following casualty categories:

  • Killed in action, died of wounds, or lost lives as result of operational movements in war zones

  • Missing in action or during operational war missions

  • Wounded in action or during operational war missions

  • Died or killed in Prisoner of War status

  • Released from Prison Camps

Men who served in these military branches but died in the U.S. as a result of disease, homicide, or suicide are not included in this list. Information available for each casualty includes:

  • Name of military personnel

  • Rank of military personnel

  • Name, address, and relationship of next-of-kin

The records in this database are arranged first by state. The state was determined by the residence of the next-of-kin at the time of the notification of casualty status. This is not necessarily the same as the birthplace, residence, or enlistment place of the personnel. Following the state, records are arranged by casualty type, then alphabetically by surname of personnel.
