This data collection contains muster rolls, ship’s company, and passenger lists for vessels departing from New South Wales (also from Sydney) between December 1816 and 1825 as well as 1898 to 1911. Called muster rolls these lists provide general information and statistics about the ships, including when the company and passengers were organized and where. The ship’s company lists also provide details about the crew members, such as their name and rank, and passenger lists contain information about the booked passengers. The records consist of both pre-printed and handwritten forms.

From 1840 on a considerable number of European settlers immigrated to New South Wales, primarily from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland; and to a lesser extent the United States, India, China, and various parts of continental Europe.
