 Chronicles of the N.Z.E.F., Numéros 1 à 61

Part of the first collection of World War I military records from New Zealand to be published on our site, the “Chronicles of the N.Z.E.F. (New Zealand Expeditionary Forces),” a magazine published twice a month in London during WWI from 1916 to 1919, are in this database. The magazine provided reports on service life in the NZEF, including stories, entertainment, and information about sporting and social events. Each issue also contains obituaries and casualty lists for soldiers who died while serving in the NZEF, as well as hospital reports of wounded troops.

The hospital reports were compiled by visitors, mostly members of the New Zealand War Contingent Association, and contain the patient's name, regimental number, and remarks about the patient's condition. While the magazine attempted to report on all bed cases, the reports are not necessarily a complete record of all NZEF hospital patients during this time period.
