Chowan County North Carolina is located on the eastern shore of North Carolina and on the Albermarle Sound. The county was created in 1670 from Albermarle Precinct. The real estate records have been preserved in the North Carolina State Archives on microfilm. The original records are located in the Chowan County Court House. The records are in poor condition due to damage of fire and flood conditions. The index book edges show the extent of the damage and are difficult to read. The index records contain the Transaction, Grantee, and Grantor names, year, book, and page location of transactions executed in the county. This database is the "Chowan County Cross Index to Deeds-Grantees 1695-1878, Vol. B" which was taken from microfilm. Approximately 21,000 entries are contained in this database. The index points to the transactions recorded in the county. It is useful in retrieving the details of the recorded transaction.
