 Ipswich Recognizance Rolls, 1294-1327

This database contains the recognizance rolls of Ipswich from Edward I's reign in 1294 to 1327. In the preface to this work recognizance rolls are explained as being records of conveyances of burgage tenements and proof of testaments in the borough court. These rolls are valuable because they contain both topographical and genealogical material that are of intrinsic interest to many types of researchers. Genealogical information that may be gleaned from these records includes the name of a principal party connected to a particular place and time, and the names of some of his family members.
