John Constable Further Documents and Correspondence

This database is part of the Suffolk Records Society collection and contains records relating to the documents and correspondence of John Constable, one of Britain's most famous landscape artists. This particular volume is divided into two parts. The first contains Constable's lecture manuscripts, documents from Constable's library, and documents of David Lucas' annotations on C.R. Leslie's Memoirs of the Life of John Constable. The second portion of the database contains records of correspondence including the diary of Daniel Whalley, family letters, the diary of John Charles Constable, and other material relating to correspondence with various friends and relatives, patrons, amateur artists, literary characters, dealers, and fellow artists. This collection of records is a great source for studying the life and work of John Constable. However, this database may also be used as a historical reference for his native Suffolk County.
