The Library of Virginia is pleased to provide Virginians free public access to select content from Ancestry.com. Through an agreement with Ancestry.com, the commonwealth's citizens can access digitized and indexed records and materials that would otherwise require a paid Ancestry.com subscription.

These specific collections represent a small part of the Library's vast holdings, some of which would not be available without Ancestry's assistance. Please consult the list at the bottom of the page, to the left, to see which collections are included in this agreement. Links below provide information on and access to more materials in the Library's collections.

PLEASE NOTE: These records do not include the entirety of Ancestry.com's Virginia-related content. As such, search results may include materials not part of the Library of Virginia's collections. Users will be offered the opportunity to access these additional records through a paid subscription to Ancestry.com. Full access to Ancestry.com is also available for use in the second floor reading rooms at the Library of Virginia.

SEARCH INSTRUCTIONS
1.) Select the record group you would like to search. If no group is selected, all collections will be searched. Enter the search terms and complete the search.
2.) To view search results, sign in to your Ancestry.com account. If you don't have an account, select Sign In and click on "sign up for free" to create a free account. A paid subscription isn't required, but you do need to have an account.
3.) Click the Back arrow twice to view search results. (This is necessary due to a technical issue that Ancestry is working to resolve).

If desired, users may opt out of receiving further email communications from Ancestry.com.
